My name is Dale Smith. My journey started in 2012 when I had lung cancer and had an upper lob removed in October (my 50th birthday). A year later I was diagnosed with IPF. I was told my life expectancy was about 5 years.
It’s now been 8 years, and 6 months ago, it finally started taking its toll and I went on oxygen and Ofev. I was told I needed to lose weight if I even wanted a chance at a lung transplant. From January to September 2021, I went from 295 down to 185. I was determined to fight this thing.
I’m now going through lung transplant testing and so far all is good! I walk as much as I can and I am very determined to get through this disease. If I can lose that much weight I can get through this all. Hoping to be on list by January 2022 and continue on with my journey.
My grandkids are my life!! Will be awesome to play with them again!!
